Wilmington Women’s Lacrosse Takes Down Tigers, 15-9, in Regular Season Finale; Earn No. 6 Seed in CACC Tournament

NEWARK, Del. - - A big first half propelled the Wilmington University women's lacrosse team to a 15-9 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Holy Family in the 2017 regular season finale on Saturday at the WU Athletics Complex.

Prior to the game, the Wildcats (7-9, 5-4 CACC) honored their six seniors as a part of Senior Day.

The Wildcats already knew they would be heading to the CACC Tournament next week, but seeding was still to be determined. With all 10 teams in action on Saturday, it has been sorted out that the Wildcats earned the No. 6 seed in the upcoming CACC Tournament and will head to No. 3 Philadelphia on Tuesday for the First Round game.

The Wildcats jumped out to a big first half lead, rattling off the final seven goal of the stanza to take a 9-1 lead into the break. Gabby Spalt and Megan Card opened the scoring with back-to-back goals before the Tigers (2-12, 2-7 CACC) got on the board, 2-1.

Spalt then started a 7-0 spurt to end the half with a free position goal with 20:27 showing on the clock. La'Dae Boyking then scored three straight for the Wildcats, two of which came on free position shots to go ahead, 6-1, with 6:50 left in the half. Alexis Olsen continued the run with a goal 16 seconds later before Card and Lashay Ross finished off the first half with goals for the 9-1 lead.

The Tigers scored the first goal of the second half but the Wildcats responded with five of the next seven goals to lead 14-4 with 14:26 left in regulation. The Tigers attempted a late game comeback with four straight goals, but could only get as close a six-goal deficit. Olsen finished off the scoring for the Wildcats with her season high third goal with 53 seconds to play.

Card paced the offense with four goals and an assist for the Wildcats while Ross, Olsen, and Boykin all scored three goals. Boykin added two assists for five points while Ross added one assist for four points. Spalt finished with two goals and a team high three assists for five points as well.

Card also picked up a team high six ground balls while Zameria Jones added five. Ross led with a game high seven draw controls while Auryonah Nash and Card led the tem with three caused turnovers each. Maddie Hurm recorded eight saves in goal for the win.

The CACC Tournament begins Tuesday with the play-in game with the semifinals and championship scheduled for next weekend in Lakewood, N.J.
