Three Wildcats Named to 2017 Women’s Lacrosse All-CACC Second Team

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference announced its 2017 Women's Lacrosse All-Conference Teams and major award winners today and three Wilmington University women's lacrosse team had three student-athletes named Second Team All-CACC.

Senior Shawna Chopko, junior La'Dae Boykin, and redshirt freshman Lashay Ross were all selected Second Team All-CACC in a vote of the conference's 10 head coaches.

Chopko (Newark, Del./Newark) was named Second Team All-CACC as a defender, finished second on the team with 15 caused turnovers and fourth on the team with 31 ground balls. She also controlled 12 draws on the season while helping the offense with 16 goals and two assists for 18 points. She scored a season high four goals while adding an assist at Keiser on February 27 while causing a season high four turnovers on March 26 at Post. Chopko scooped up a season's best six ground balls at Philadelphia while added a season's best four draw against Queens.

Boykin (Edgewood, Md./Edgewood) was named Second Team All-CACC as an attacker, leading the Wildcats with 46 goals and 61 points. She finished the regular season fifth in the CACC with her 61 points. She was also third on the team with 34 draw controls on the season. Boykin scored at least one goal in all 15 games she played this year, with a season high seven goals coming against Nyack on March 21. She had eight points that game while tying her season high with eight points again at Post, scoring five goals and adding three assists. She scored four goals twice on the year, including four at Philadelphia with the final one coming in the overtime period for the win.

Ross (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton West) was named Second Team All-CACC as a midfielder, covering all aspects of the field for the Wildcats. She led the team with 67 draw controls, 43 grounds balls, and 19 caused turnovers, while finishing fourth in goals and points. Her 67 draws rank third in the CACC while her 43 ground balls rank seventh in the conference. She had a season high six goals, including four in the second half, at Philadelphia, while scoring five at Dominican. Ross collected a season high six ground balls in three different games, while controlling a season high nine draws at Caldwell. She also finished with a season's best three caused turnovers at Post.

Georgian Court's Samantha Fernandez was named the 2017 CACC Player of the Year while Dominican's Jenna Fox was voted the 2017 CACC Rookie of the Year. Fox's coach Jim Drivas was named the 2017 BSN Sports CACC Coach of the Year in a vote from the league's sports information directors while Felician University rounded out the major award winners by being voted the 2017 CACC Team Sportsmanship Award.

The Wildcats earned the No. 6 seed for the CACC Tournament and will play No. 3 Philadelphia on Tuesday at Ravenhill Field. The Wildcats came back to win an overtime thriller, 16-15, at Philadelphia earlier this season.
