Wilmington Women’s Lacrosse Falls in the CACC Tournament First Round, 14-6, to Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - - The Wilmington University women's lacrosse season came to an end in the first round of the 2017 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament on Wednesday, as third seeded Philadelphia took down the sixth seeded Wildcats, 14-6, at the KROC Center.

The Wildcats end the 2017 season with a 7-10 overall record while the Rams (9-7) advance to the CACC Tournament Semifinals on Saturday against Dominican, hosted by Georgian Court University.

In seeing each other for the second time in two weeks, it was the Rams that were able to jump out in front and never look back. Philadelphia scored the first four goals of the game before tallying the final four goals of the first half for an 8-1 lead heading into the break.

Megan Card scored the first goal of the second half for the Wildcats, but the Rams responded with another four-goal spurt to lead 12-2 with 12:44 left in regulation. The Wildcats went on to score four of the final six goals of the game, but it was too little too late as the Rams earned the 14-6 victory.

Card scored the team's lone goal in the first half as well to match the team high with two goals on the day. La'Dae Boykin and Shawna Chopko scored back-to-back goals to being the score to 12-4 before Gabby Spalt and Boykin scored the final two goals of the game to settle on the final, 14-6.

The Wildcats led in draw controls, 14-8, but also turned the ball over more, 29-21, than the Rams. The Rams also out shot the Wildcats, 33-19, on the afternoon.

Lashay Ross finished with a match high six draw controls while adding a team high three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Alyssa Matthews' five goals and Kathryn Avanzato's one goal and seven assists led the Rams.
