NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - The Wilmington University women's lacrosse team earned 51 points and is predicted to finish sixth as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference announced the results of the 2018 Women's Lacrosse Preseason Coaches Poll on Tuesday.
The Wildcats went 7-10 overall last year, going a 5-4 conference mark to earned the sixth and final spot in the CACC Tournament. They are under the direction of first year head coach Kevin Day in 2018.
Defending CACC Tournament Champion Georgian Court tops the poll for 2018, garnering seven first place votes and 96 total votes. Jefferson, who Georgian Court defeated in last year's final, came in second place in the poll with 83 points.
Dominican took a first place vote to earn 79 points for third place while Chestnut Hill earned the final two first place votes and 74 points for fourth place. Caldwell picked up 56 total points follow by Wilmington's 51 points to round out the predicted teams that will advance to the CACC Touranment.
Holy Family earned 41 points for seventh, followed by Nyack (26 points), Post (22 points), and Felician (11 points).
The 2018 CACC Women's Lacrosse Championship will be held from April 24, 28-29, with the first-round games to be held on Tuesday the 24th at the sites of the highest seeds. The top-two teams in the regular-season standings, along with the two first-round winners, will advance to the CACC semifinals on Saturday the 28th at 12 and 2:30 p.m. The CACC Championship Final will be conducted the next day on Sunday the 29th. Both the semis and final will be held on the GCU Turf Field in Lakewood, N.J., on the Georgian Court campus.
The Wildcats open their season on Saturday, February 24 at the WU Athletics Complex against Millersville. The opening draw is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
