NEWARK, Del. - - A long first half run put Jefferson in control over the Wilmington University women's lacrosse team, as the Wildcats fell, 16-10, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action at the WU Athletics Complex on Wednesday afternoon.

The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Wildcats (4-6, 2-1 CACC), as they had not lost since March 17. The Rams remain unbeaten in CACC play, improving to 3-5, 2-0 in the CACC.

Despite the loss, with La'Dae Boykin's first goal of the game she became only the third player in program history to record 200 career points. With four points today, Boykin moves into second place all-time with 203 points, trailing only Danielle Niccoli (2008-11) who tallied 232 career points. Liz Case (2010-13) finished her career with 201 points.

Wednesday started with the Wildcats scoring two of the first three goals of the game. Lashay Ross opened the scoring with a free position shot before giving the Wildcats a 2-1 lead with an unassisted goal with 23:05 left in the first half. But the Rams rattled off the next seven goals to seize control and never look back. Boykin ended the run with her 200th career point, sending the game into the halftime break with the Rams leading 8-3.

Back-to-back goals just 10 seconds a part from Boykin and Ross early in the second half brought the Wildcats to within 9-5, but the Rams scored back-to-back goals and five of the next six goals to take a 14-6 advantage with 15:35 to play.

Boykin started a run of three straight goals for the Wildcats, but it was too little too late as the clock ran out. Mikailla Spencer and Ross finished off the scoring for the Wildcats.

Ross and Boykin led the Wildcats with four goals each, but the Rams out shot the Wildcats, 43-21, for the game. The Wildcats also committed 36 turnovers in the game, compared to the Rams' nine. Nine of the Wildcats' turnovers came on clear attempts.

The Wildcats return to action on Saturday when they host Caldwell in another CACC battle at the WU Athletics Complex. Saturday is Senior Day for the Wildcats, as they will honor the careers of La'Dae Boykin, Stephanie Jubb, Nicole Strong, and Christina Ziegler prior to the opening draw. The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
