La’Dae Boykin and Makayla McCarthy Named CACC Players of the Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference has announced this week's Players of the Week and women's lacrosse's La'Dae Boykin and softball's Makayla McCarthy were honor by the conference for their outstanding play.

La'Dae Boykin was named the CACC Player of the Week for the first time this season while Makayla McCarthy was again named the CACC Pitcher and Co-Rookie of the Week.

Boykin led the Wildcats to a 2-1 mark last week, scoring 22 goals to go with seven assists for 29 points. She set two more single game program records in the process, scoring 10 goals at Chestnut Hill to break the mark set by Sara LeBrun. She added an assist against the Griffins for 11 points, tying the all-time record for a single game. She then came out and scored nine goals with three assists to break the single game points record with 12, previously set by Rebekah McCurry. The week ended with three goals and three assists in the first half at Felician. Her fourth point at Felician was her 100th of the year, becoming the first Wildcat in program history to reach the milestone.

McCarthy went 7-for-18 at the plate in seven games last week, hitting four doubles and her first collegiate home run for five RBI and seven runs scored. She went 2-for-3 with an RBI double in game two at Jefferson after hitting her home run in game one at the Rams. Stayed hot by going 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and a run scored in a single game at Chestnut Hill. In the circle, the freshman went 3-1 overall, losing a tough luck, 1-0, bout to #24 West Chester. She struck out nine Jefferson batters in a complete game four-hit shutout to start the week. She struck out nine more at Chestnut Hill, only allowing one run on two hits in six innings. McCarthy finished the week with nine more strikeouts in a complete game, five-hit shutout in game two against Felician. For the week, she struck out 32 batters with only four walks in 26.1 innings pitched and finished with a 0.53 ERA.

It is the fourth time McCarthy has been named the CACC Rookie of the Week and third time being named the CACC Pitcher of the Week.

Baseball's Kendal Small was named to the CACC Honor Roll after hitting .346 (9-for-26) with a double and home run. Softball's Rosa'Lynn Burton was also named to the Weekly Honor Roll after batting 15-for-20 (.750) with three doubles, two triples, five RBI, nine runs scored and four stolen bases.
