Big Second Half Helps Women’s Lacrosse Past Dominican, 17-11

POMONA, N.Y. – Eight second half goals for the Wilmington University women's lacrosse team would secure a 17-11 win over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opponent Dominican on Saturday afternoon.

Despite Dominican (1-5, 0-2 CACC) scoring the first five goals of the game, the Wildcats (4-6, 1-1 CACC) scored nine goals in the first half to take and 9-8 lead at halftime.

Wilmington did not score their first goal until 19:51 left in the first half when Lashay Ross found the back of the net. The Wildcats would score back-to-back goals to bring the Chargers lead to just 5-3, thanks to Ross and Taylor Lambeth. Dominican would make it a 7-4 game with 6:45 to go until the half, but WilmU scored four unanswered goals to take their first lead of the game, 8-7, with just under a minute to play. Alexis Miller would give the Wildcats the one goal lead into halftime on a free position shot for her first goal of the game to make it, 9-8.

Lashay Ross would score her fifth goal of the game to open up the second half for WilmU. Dominican would shrink the Wildcats lead to one, making it an 11-10 game with 18:30 left to play in the game, but Alexis Miller would start a three-goal run for Wilmington, before the Chargers decreased the lead back to four with just under ten minutes to play. The Wildcats hung on though, scoring the final three goals of the game from Taylor Lambeth and Marisa Parker to defeat the Chargers, 17-11.

Lashay Ross led the team with five goals on nine shots with two assists. Taylor Lambeth had four goals on seven shots and one assist, as Brooke Siebert scored three goals on four shots. Alexis Miller had two goals and one assist as Delaney Steele added two goals for WilmU.

Tori Grubowski made six saves on nine shots, as Maddie Hurm made three saves for the Wildcats in goal.

WilmU outshot the Chargers, 41-25, in the contest, while going 6-for-8 on free position shots.

The Wildcats are back home on Wednesday as they host Felician at the WU Athletics Complex. Opening draw is set for 4:00 p.m.
