Women’s Lacrosse Win Third Straight with 19-6 Win over Nyack on Senior Day

NEWARK, Del. – The Wilmington University women's lacrosse team scored 13 first half goals to help them to a 19-6 win over Nyack on Saturday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex for Senior Day.

Before the game, junior Lisa Eller, along with seniors, Mikailla Spencer, Maddie Hurm, Marisa Parker, and Hannah Tornatore were all recognized on the turf for their accomplishments throughout their careers.

The Wildcats (6-6, 3-1 CACC) scored the first four goals of the game, including the first goal from freshman Maddie Day with 22:23 left to play in the first half. Mikailla Spencer would net her fourth goal of the season and the second of the day to give WilmU a 2-0 lead just 2:01 later. With a 4-1 lead, Nyack got on the board with 16:09 to play until the half to make it a three-goal game.

A six-goal run by the Wildcats would extend their lead to 10-1 with 8:35 to play, until the Warriors scored their second and final goal of the half just 21 seconds later. Delaney Steele would get a feed from Marisa Parker with 3:05 left until halftime to give the Wildcats a 13-2 lead into the break.

The Warriors started the second half of the game with a man-up goal with 27:41 to play to make it a 10-goal game. Nyack would score three more goals of the half to make it a 15-6 game, but Wilmington would take back their lead of 10, as Lashay Ross scored her third goal of the game to make it 16-6. Taylor Lambeth, Brooke Siebert, and Delaney Steele would net the final three goals for the Wildcats, to finish the game with a final score of 19-6.

Red shirt sophomore Delaney Steele scored three goals and had seven assists for 10 points for the Wildcats. Steele's seven assists would tie the single game program record set by Liz Case in 2013. Today's game also marked her second consecutive game with 10 points.

Brooke Siebert had four goals for the Wildcats, as Maddie Day (one assist) and Lashay Ross scored three goals. Taylor Lambeth (two assists) and Alexis Miller finished with two goals.

Senior Maddie Hurm made four saves in the net and only allowed two goals, as Tori Grubowski had three saves in the net.

The Wildcats are back home on Tuesday afternoon as they host Holy Family at the Complex. Opening draw is slated for 4:00 p.m.
