WEST CALDWELL, N.J. – With a 22-9 win over Caldwell Saturday at Essex Valley Field, the Wilmington University women's lacrosse team won its fifth consecutive game, tying it's most consecutive wins in a season since 2006, while making it the most goals scored in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win as well.
Red shirt sophomore Delaney Steele has also added to her record breaking season again, as she totaled 10 assists and three goals in today's win, which breaks her own record of eight assists in a game and La'Dae Boykin's 12 points in a game set last year, as Steele finished with 13 points.
The Wildcats (8-6, 5-1 CACC) scored 16 first half goals, with help from winning 23 draw controls throughout the whole game, to defeat the Cougars, 22-9.
Wilmington scored the first four goals of the contest, including Maddie Day's first goal that came just 37 seconds into the game on a pass from Maris Allen. Caldwell would make it 4-1 with 25:51 to play until the half, but the Wildcats would go on another run, scoring five straight goals, breaking out to a 9-1 lead within the next five minutes. The Cougars would go on their own run, as they scored three straight goals to make it a 9-4 game, but five goals would be the closest they came the rest of the contest, as WilmU scored seven more goals to finish the half, leading, 16-7.
Steele would tie her eight assists in a game in the first half, before breaking it on a pass to Brooke Siebert for the first goal of the second half, with 26:51 left in regulation. The Wildcats would score the first six goals of the second half, including three from Siebert. Caldwell would score their final two goals of the game with 1:28 left to play in the contest.
Brooke Siebert finished with six goals, one assist, and eight draw controls, as freshman Maddie Day netted five goals in the game. Lashay Ross (seven draws), Maris Allen (one assist, eight draws), and Taylor Lambeth (one assist) all had two goals. Senior Marisa Parker also dished out two assists.
Maddie Hurm made five saves in goal, while Tori Grubowski made four saves on six shots in the second half.
Wilmington will host CACC leading and defending champs Georgian Court on Wednesday for a CACC matchup with the Lions. Opening draw is set for 4:00 p.m. at the WU Athletics Complex.
