NEWARK, Del. – Seven unanswered goals in the second half by Millersville would extend their three-goal lead into a 20-10 win over the Wilmington University women's lacrosse team Saturday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex.

The Wildcats (1-1) started out strong, scoring the first goal of the contest just two minutes into the game, as Delaney Steele found Brooke Siebert for her first goal of the season to put WilmU up 1-0 early on. It wasn't long for the Marauders (1-0) to answer though, scoring off the draw control to make it an even 1-1- score 51 seconds later.

Junior Taylor Lambeth found a space in the Millersville defense to make it a 2-1 game in favor of Wilmington with 24:59 to play, but the Wildcats would give six consecutive goals up to the Marauders, making it a 7-2 game with 17:56 to play in the first half.

Senior Lashay Ross started a momentum swing for the Wildcats 39 seconds later, picking up a groundball on a Marauder turnover for a break away down the field to give WilmU their third goal of the game. Four minutes later, Lambeth would make it a 7-4 game thanks to free position shot, before Delaney Steele found Brooke Siebert for the second time throughout the game to put the Marauders lead to within two with 13:10 to play. A two goal deficit would shortly become an 11-7 Marauder lead at the half.

Brooke Siebert started the second half winning the draw control for the Wildcats, before finding the back of the net off a pass from Delaney Steele to make it an 11-8 contest with 29:10 to go. The Wildcats' quick goal would not be enough though, as Millersville answered 14 seconds later, off the draw control to start a seven goal run with 12:00 minutes left to play in regulation to make it an 18-8 game.

Lashay Ross would net the ninth goal of the game for the Wildcats on a free position shot, before Delaney Steele made it a 19-10 game with 6:33 to play.

The Marauders would outshoot the Wildcats 47-19 in the contest, but Wilmington would hold their opponent to 3-11 off of free position shots.

Brooke Siebert led the Wildcats with four goals on five shots, along with seven draw controls and three caused turnovers. Taylor Lambeth, Lashay Ross, and Delaney Steele each had two goals, as Ross finished with one assist and four caused turnovers, as Steele had four assists for six points. Sophomore Tori Grubowski made 14 saves in the net.

The Wildcats will head to Shepherdstown, West Virginia on Tuesday to take on Shepherd at 3:30 p.m.
