Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Lynn, 19-11 in Final Game Down South

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Seven goals from the end of the first half to the first 10 minutes of the second half gave Lynn University the edge for a 19-11 win over the Wilmington University women's lacrosse team Friday night.

The Knights (2-3) would be first to get on the board in the contest, scoring within the first three minutes of play. Lynn would then score two consecutive goals to go up 3-0 with 25:11 to play. It wasn't until the 22:59 mark that Delaney Steele found Brooke Siebert for the Wildcats' (1-5) first goal. Less than a minute later, Taylor Lambeth gave WilmU their second goal of the game on a free position shot to make it a 3-2 game.

The Knights would score one more time, before Maddie Day found Delaney Steele for her first goal of the game, to put the Wildcats back within one, making it a 4-3 game with 20:47 to play in the first half. The next goal wouldn't come for another 10 minutes, as both teams couldn't find the back of the net, until Lynn scored with 10:01 to go back up two. The Wildcats would get two more goals in the half, including another one from Steele and Day, but Lynn would take an 8-5 lead into halftime.

The Knights would continue their momentum from their final goal of the first half into the second, scoring six straight goals to extend their lead to 14-5 with 20:29 to play. Wilmington wouldn't find the back of the net until 20:11 when Maris Allen found Taylor Lambeth to make it a 14-6 game.

Maddie Day would start a three-goal run for the Wildcats, before Lambeth put it to a 15-9 game with 12:08 to go. The Wildcats' final goal of the contest came with 7:08 to play, when Alexis Miller scored on a free position shot to make it a 16-11 game, as the Knights' defense held off WilmU the remainder of the game.

Maddie Day led the Wildcats in scoring with four goals and one assist. Taylor Lambeth finished with three goals and one assist, as Delaney Steele had two goals and three assists. Alexis Miller had one goal and one assist, as Brooke Siebert finished with one goal, three ground balls, and five draw controls. Maris Allen had one assist and three ground balls. Tori Grubowski made 10 saves in the net.

The Wildcats will head back to Delaware before heading to Old Westbury, New York to take on New York Tech on Thursday afternoon. Opening draw is set for 3:00 p.m.
