WEST CALDWELL, N.J. - - Brooke Siebert double dipped on a pair of milestones on Saturday afternoon, setting a new single game program record with 17 draws at Caldwell, while also reaching the 200 career draws plateau in lead the Wilmington University women's lacrosse team to a 25-15 victory.
Brooke Siebert became the third player in program history to scoop up 200 career draws, joining Lashay Ross (331 draws) and Danielle Niccoli (226 draws). Siebert now has 215 career draws.
Trailing 6-4, the Wildcats (4-4, 4-2 CACC) scored seven straight and nine of the final 13 of the first half to take a 13-10 lead into the break. The run continued for the Wildcats, scoring five of the first six goals of the second half, as the Cougars (2-6, 3-3 CACC) could only get to within as few as six goals the rest of the way.
The Wildcats jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead with two goals from Maddie Day and third from Maris Allen, but the Cougars went on a 6-1 run to grab a 6-4 lead with 18:29 to play in the first half.
Taylor Lambeth then started a 7-0 spurt for the Wildcats over the next eight minutes, taking control of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest. Lambeth would score three goals in the stretch, while Amelie Gamache (2), Brooke Siebert, and Makenzie Stritzinger would also all score in the game deciding run.
Lauren Gresham scored on a man-down situation, giving the Wildcats a 13-8 lead with 3:07 to play in the half. Caldwell tallied the final two marks of the first half, but the Wildcats still lead, 13-10, going into the break.
The teams traded goals to start the second half, but then Lambeth sparked another 4-0 run for the Wildcats. Riley McQuaide got in the scoresheet with a goal, sandwiching goals around a mark from Amelie Gamache to make it 18-11 with 22:23 to play. McQuaide and Maddie Day then scored back-to-back goals to give the Wildcats a 21-13 lead before another 4-0 spurt put the game away for the Wildcats.
Taylor Lambeth led the Wildcats with nine points on Saturday, scoring five goals while adding four assists. Brooke Siebert and Amelie Gamache added eight points each, with Siebert scoring five goals with three assists and Gamache recording four goals and four assists.
Maddie Day tallied four goals and two assists while Riley McQuaide scored three goals to go with an assist. Lauren Gresham scored twice while Maris Allen chipped in with one goal and two assists.
Brooke Siebert secured 17 draws, breaking her own program record of 14 set against Holy Family in 2019. She was tied with Lashay Ross who also had 14 at Chestnut Hill in 2018. The Wildcats won 27 of the 42 draws. Maris Allen added six draws while Amelie Gamache chipped in with four.
Tori Grubowski recorded one save in the first half before Katie Vindigni made two stops in the second half.
The Wildcats host Holy Family on Wednesday in another key CACC matchup as the regular season is nearing the end. The opening draw is set for 3:00 p.m. at the WU Athletics Complex. Wildcat student-athletes will be allowed two (2) guests to watch from outside the grandstand.
