NEWARK, Del. - - Six consecutive goals late in the first half helped the Wilmington University women's lacrosse team separate itself from Holy Family in a 17-11 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory on Wednesday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex.
The win was the second in a row for the Wildcats (5-4, 5-2 CACC) and five in their last six games overall. With one game left in the regular season, the Wildcats are tied with Post in third place, but hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Eagles.
Holy Family (2-6, 2-6 CACC) started the scoring with the game's first goal, but then the Wildcats rattled off the next three. Lauren Gresham opened the scoring for the Wildcats before Brooke Siebert and Amelie Gamache made it 3-1 with 25:40 left in the first half.

Maris Allen then started the 6-0 run for the Wildcats with her first goal of the day. After nearly nine minutes of game time elapsed Taylor Lambeth finished off a tic-tac-toe passing play from Maddie Day and Lauren Gresham to cap back-to-back goals to go up 7-3 with 8:41 to play. Amelie Gamache scored her third of the half for the 8-3 lead before Makenzie Stritzinger and Riley McQuaide each scored their first of the game to cap the run, 10-3, with 5:52 left in the half.
The Tigers opened the second half with back-to-back goals but then the Wildcats answered with four straight of their own. Amelie Gamache book-ended the run, while Makenzie Stritzinger and Maris Allen scored as well to move ahead 15-6 with 13:28 left in regulation.
Holy Family attempted a late game comeback, scoring twice to get to within 15-8, and three of the final four goals of the game, but it wasn't enough as the Wildcats won by six.
Amelie Gamache led the Wildcats with five goals while Taylor Lambeth had a team high six points with four goals and two assists. Maris Allen and Brooke Siebert each scored two goals and an assist, while Siebert packed the stat sheet with 11 draws, six ground balls, and five caused turnovers.
Marisa Swanson paced the defense with two caused turnovers and three ground balls while the netminder Tori Grubowski came away with three caused turnovers and five saves. Casey Johnson and Keisha Baez scooped up two ground balls as well.
The regular season comes to a close on Friday, as they host Felician for a matinee game at the WU Athletics Complex. The opening draw is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
