Wildcats Ease Past Post, 20-6, Backed by Taylor Lambeth’s 10 Points

NEWARK, Del. - - The Wilmington University women's lacrosse team scored the first six goals en route to a 20-6 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Post on Saturday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex.

Despite only narrowly winning the draw control contest, 16-13, the Wildcats (7-2, 2-0 CACC) forced Post (2-7, 1-2 CACC) into 23 turnovers and outshot the Eagles, 45-18. The Wildcats went a perfect 14-for-14 on clear attempts in the game.

The Wildcats scored the first six goals of the game before the Eagles were able to get on the board with 5:46 to play in the first half. The Wildcats scored the final two goals of the quarter, including Amelie Gamache beating the clock with one second showing to lead 8-1 after the first quarter.

The Wildcats made it four in a row spanning the first and second quarters, taking a 10-1 lead with 12:33 to play in the half. Post scored to get the match to within 12-3 with 4:57 to play, but Taylor Lambeth scored with 2:47 to play, ultimately sending the Wildcats into the break with a 13-3 lead.

The Eagles scored the first goal of the third quarter but then the Wildcats ran off the next three goals to regain a double-digit lead, 16-4, after three quarters of play.

Post closed to within 11 goals to start the fourth, but then the Wildcats scored three straight to put the stamp on the contest, leading 19-5 with 7:43 showing on the clock.

Taylor Lambeth led the team with 10 points, scoring two goals to go with eight assists. Campbell Heller led the scoring with five goals while Maddie Day scored four goals and added two assists. Ella Baynes scored four goals and added one assist while Amelie Gamache scored three goals, dished out two assists, and led the team with six draws in the game.

Saturday started a five-game homestand for the Wildcats. The next welcome Dominican (6-2, 2-0 CACC) to the WU Athletics Complex on Wednesday. The opening draw is set for 4:00 p.m.
