Wilmington Women’s Soccer Drops CACC Contest, 2-0, at Caldwell

The Caldwell women's soccer team scored a goal in each half to defeat Wilmington University, 2-0, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Caldwell Athletics Field.

It was the second straight 2-0 loss for the Wildcats (2-6, 2-3 CACC) on the season, falling to the reigning CACC Tournament Champion Cougars (3-3-2, 2-2 CACC) for the first time since the 2008 season.

Caldwell got on the board early in the first half scoring on its second shot opportunity of the afternoon. Natalie Migoya passed the ball from the left side to Randall Stafford who's one-time shot from 25-yards out got past Wilmington netminder Julia Brown at the 5:52 mark.

The home team controlled the rest of the first half, as the Cougars outshot the Wildcats, 9-0, despite each squad earning two corner kicks in the opening 45 minutes.

Ashley Kroll started the second half with a shot on goal for the Wildcats, but Caldwell's Robin Franchi recorded the save to keep the Wildcats off the board.

Caldwell added to its lead in the 61st minute when Shelagh Kerrisk collected a loose ball and took a shot on frame from 25 yards out, scoring her first goal of the season.

Less than a minute later, Chelsea Grace had a header that went wide before Franchi saved Rebecca Sowers' shot in the 63rd minute, keeping the shutout intact.

Franchi recorded three second half saves to post the shutout while Brown made six saves for the Wildcats. The Cougars outshot the Wildcats, 18-8, throughout the contest.

The Wildcats remain on the road for their next contest, as they head to Post University for another CACC contest. The game was moved up a day to Friday, October 3, from its original scheduled date of Saturday, and will be played on Campus at LaMoy Field starting at 1 p.m.
