Late Goal Drops Wilmington Women’s Soccer, 1-0, at Dominican

A late second half goal sank the Wilmington University women's soccer game, 1-0, at Dominican's Soccer Field in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference on Saturday afternoon.

In a tightly contested contest, it was a goal in the 79th minute that gave the home team the victory. Dominican's (4-5-2, 4-3-2 CACC) Jennifer Becker scored her sixth goal of the season from right in front of the goalmouth to defeat the Wildcats (3-10, 3-6 CACC).

The Chargers outshot the Wildcats, 7-5, for the match after the teams were dead even, 3-3, at the halftime break. Wilmington earned four corners in the first half but the Chargers earned more for the match, 6-4.

Wilmington starting goalkeeper Julia Brown made two saves for the Wildcats in the first half while Kierstyn Williams came on for the second half to make one save.

Dominican's Veronica Iozzi made three saves, all in the first half, to earn the shutout victory.

Wilmington's Sierrah Taylor, Chelsea Grace, Chandler Lages, Jillian Porter, and Kellie MacIntosh each recorded one shot for the visitors.

The Wildcats return to the WU Athletics Complex for their next action, taking on Bridgeport on Wednesday in their final non-conference matchup of the season. The opening tip is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
