NEWARK, Del. - - Key saves from sophomore goalkeeper Kierstyn Williams preserved a 2-1 victory for the Wilmington University women's soccer team over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foe Felician on Saturday at the WU Athletics Complex.

On multiple occasions, the netminder looked beat when the ball was kicked, but Williams was able to get a able on the ball way above her head and deflect the ball off the crossbar and out of the back of the net.

Sophomore Loran Wyrough led the offensive attack, which scored all its goals in the first half, getting on the board in the 28th minute before the game winner in the final minute of the half.

Sophomore Chandler Lages put the Wildcats (2-2, 2-1 CACC) on the board first, scoring her first goal of the season 27:04 into the match. Lages received a cross from the left side from Wyrough, corralled the ball with the first touch and volleyed it home from the six-yard mark for the 1-0 lead.

But the Golden Falcons (1-3, 1-1 CACC) retaliated on their next offensive attack, quickly tying the game 24 seconds later.

The game remained tied until the final minute of the half, before Rebecca Dolhansky fed Wyrough with a through ball down the middle of the field. Wyrough was in on the Felician keeper and slotted the shot home with 42 seconds remaining on the board.

Wyrough has a few more open field chances in the second half to extend the lead, but Felician goalkeeper Julia Sheridan came up with the save each time to keep the Golden Falcons in the contest.

Both Williams and Sheridan recorded 10 saves in the contest, with Williams recorded five in each half to secure the victory.

Felician led the game in shots, 23-14, while also earning more corners, 7-1, but the Wilmington defense heard firm with a bulk of those shots coming outside the 18-yard box.

The Wildcats return to action with a midweek nonconference at the WU Athletics Complex when they welcome LIU Post to Newark on Wednesday. The game is set for a 3:30 p.m. start.
