Seniors Carry Wilmington Women’s Soccer Past Dominican, 4-0, on Senior Day

NEWARK, Del. - - The two seniors on the Wilmington University women's soccer team scored their first career goals to lead the Wildcats to a 4-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Dominican on Saturday for Senior Day at the WU Athletics Complex.

The seniors were honored prior to the start of the game and Kellie MacIntosh and Cella Cerrato repaid the Wildcats (9-6, 9-2 CACC) by each scoring their first career goal in the second half. Loran Wyrough scored the bookend goals for the Wildcats as they scored three second half goals to take down Dominican (1-12, 1-10 CACC).

Wyrough started the scoring early in the contest, capitalizing on the team's first shot. Chandler Lages made a run down the right side and put a cross to the middle of the goal. Wyrough was there waiting and headed it home in the fifth minute for the early lead.

The Wildcats went on to out-shoot the Chargers, 23-1, in the first half but the Chargers defense and goalkeeper Angelica Contreras came up with 10 first half saves to keep the contest at 1-0 at the halftime break.

MacIntosh opened the scoring in the second half, this time being the beneficiary of a cross from Lages just 5:56 into the second frame. The cross from the endline found its way through the defense and to the foot of MacIntosh from eight yards out.

Cerrato got in on the scoring as well, despite being a two-year starting defender for the Wildcats. Alexis Perry started the play from in front of her bench, passing to Wyrough in the center of the field. Wyrough's touch pass was laid out for Cerrato and she blasted a shot home from 22 yards out in the 61^st minute for the 3-0 lead.

Wyrought then capped the scoring with another header in the 75^th minute, getting more on the ball than the contesting goalkeeper. Wyrough challenged a high lofted cross from Perry, heading the ball home on the far post for her 16^th of the year.

The Wildcats out shot the Chargers, 34-3, and earned more corners, 6-1, for the match. Contreras finished with 13 saves for the Chargers while Kierstyn Williams made two saves for her fourth shutout of the season.

Wyrough's two goals moved her into the lead in the CACC while she is now tied atop the conference with 36 points.

The win propels the Wildcats into second place with one conference game remaining. The Wildcats square off with CACC leading Georgian Court in Lakewood, N.J., on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
