NEWARK, Del. - - A pair of first half goals stood tall for the Wilmington University women's soccer team on Saturday, as they took a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest, 2-0, over Caldwell at the WU Athletics Complex.

The win keeps the Wildcats (6-4-1, 5-1 CACC) a game behind the CACC leaders while the Cougars (4-5, 3-3 CACC) slip to sixth place in the standings.

In an evenly contested first half, the Wildcats were able to strike first, getting a goal from leading goal scorer Loran Wyrough in the 28th minute. A foul right in front of the Cougar bench resulted in a set piece for the Wildcats, and Rebecca Dolhansky played a perfect ball into the box. Forcing the keeper to come out , but far enough away to keep it from the netminder's reach, Dolhansky's ball found Wyrough on the other side, and she finished it with her head for the 1-0 lead.

Still holding the 1-0 lead, the Wildcats were able to strike again just before the halftime break. Using another set piece, the Wildcats went ahead 2-0 in the 44th minute. Dolhansky started the set piece near the corner flag, sending one to the middle of the box. Wyrough flicked the ball on to the back post, finding a wide-open Melissa Gall for her second goal of the year with 1:11 remaining in the half.

The Wildcats needed goalkeeper Kierstyn Williams in the second half to secure the shutout and the victory, as the Cougars had multiple opportunities. From in close, Williams made back-to-back saves at 62:56 and 63:05 to keep the visitors off the board. Williams made her last save with 2:41 left, guiding the ball out of bounds for corner.

Williams made five saves in the second half alone, making eight total for her third shutout of the season. The Wildcats and Cougars each took 14 shots, and earned five corners in the contest.

The Wildcats head to Georgian Court on Wednesday for a midweek road test before returning to the WU Athletics Complex for Wilmington's 2017 Homecoming Weekend. Their game at Georgian Court is set for a 3:30 p.m. start.
