NEWARK, Del. - - A pair of Wilmington University women's soccer student-athletes have been named to the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-East Region Women's Soccer Teams, as voted on by the region's sports information directors.
Redshirt senior Loran Wyrough was voted on to the D2CCA All-East Region First Team while redshirt junior Melissa Gall makes a repeat appearance on the D2CCA All-East Region Second Team.
Wyrough (Hamilton, N.J.) led the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with 17 goals, finishing second in the league with 39 points. She scored four goals in one game twice this season, doing so at Nyack and against Dominican in CACC play. Her five game-winning goals also lead the CACC, with four of them coming against CACC opponents.
The forward finished her Wildcat career second in program history with 53 goals and only the second player in program history with at least 100 career points, finishing with 121 overall. Her 39 points this year are fourth best in program history. She was named Second Team D2CCA All-East Region and First Team All-CACC as a sophomore, Second Team All-CACC as a junior, and First Team All-CACC again as a senior.
Gall (Marlton, N.J.) anchored the Wildcats defense, starting all 20 games this season as a center back. She scored three goals as a redshirt junior, being a repetitive target on set pieces due to her skill in the air. Her tenacious and forceful style of defense has earned back-to-back First Team All-CACC selections, while also earning Second Team D2CCA All-East Region and Third Team NSCAA All-East Region last season.
The defense has seven career goals and one assist from the back line, playing in 55 games with 53 starts in three seasons.
Assumption's Kallie Villemaire was voted the D2CCA East Region Player of the Year after scoring 20 goals and adding two assists for the 10-6-2 Greyhounds.
The CACC led with 10 total selections. The Northeast 10 was next with nine selections while student-athlete from the East Coast Conference earned seven selections.
The First Team members advance to the national ballot as potential All-America honorees. In addition, Villemaire will join the other seven Region Players of the Year as nominees for the Ron Lenz National Player of the Year award.
