PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - - A pair of first half goals by Jefferson sinks the Wilmington University women's soccer team, 2-0, snapping a five-game Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference winning streak on Tuesday afternoon at Ravenhill Field.
The Wildcats (6-6, 5-2 CACC) had a three-match win streak snapped and had won five straight CACC contests before Tuesday. The Rams (4-5, 4-4 CACC) outshot the Wildcats, 15-12, for the match, including a 9-4 mark in the first half, which led to a pair of goals.
The Rams got on the board first in the 30th minute, getting on the end of a loose ball in the box for the 1-0 lead. Rebecca Dolhansky had an opportunity to tie the game in the 33rd minute, but he shot was saved by Ram goalkeeper Danielle Samson, resulting in a corner kick.
Jefferson capitalized again before the half, using a through ball into the box in the 41st minute to make it a 2-0 game.
The Wildcats put four shots on frame in the second half, but Samson made all for stops to record the shutout. Krysta Memis had a shot on goal in the 85th minute that was saves and Dolhansky's last chance effort with 11 seconds to play went over the crossbar. The Wildcats outshot the Rams, 8-6, in the second half.
Dolhansky led the Wildcats with four shots and three shots on goal while Memis put two shots on goal in the game. La'Dae Boykin had the final shot on goal for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats will look to bounce back with their next contest, as they head to Post on Saturday. The opening whistle is set for 12:00 p.m. at LaMoy Field.
