PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Wilmington University women's soccer team could not come back from an early goal by Holy Family, as they fell to the Tigers, 1-0, on Tuesday afternoon at Tiger Field in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matchup.
The Wildcats (3-4-1, 2-1-1 CACC) found themselves down early as Holy Family (3-4, 3-0 CACC) got on the board in the 12th minute of play, from a shot 30 yards out to make it a 1-0 game. Wilmington would have four shot opportunities within a five-minute span, but two of the four would be saved by the Tigers' keeper to preserve a 1-0 game.
In the 30th minute of play, the Wildcats had a chance from Samantha Emmi on a header, but Emmi's shot would hit the post as the Tigers took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
In the opening minutes of the second half, Jasmine Brake would try to tie things up with a shot that hit off the crossbar, before Jessica Unsihuay put one near goal that was just high. The Wildcats would only get one more shot off within the half from Kasie Lambert, but could not connect.
Holy Family would control the ball for almost the remainder of time, as they took six corner kicks in the half, totaling nine for the whole contest, while WilmU only had two throughout the entire game. Wilmington totaled nine shots in the first half and three in the second, to outshoot the Tigers, 12-8.
Samantha Emmi had three shots for the Wildcats, while Jessica Unsihuay, Crystal Kline, and Jasmine Brake had two each. Emily Camp made two saves in goal.
Wilmington is back home on Saturday as they host Post at 12:00 p.m. at the Complex.
