NEWARK, Del. – Two second half goals for Post was enough to get past the Wilmington University women's soccer team, as they fell 3-2 on Saturday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex.
It was a fast start for both teams, as Post (3-3-2, 3-1 CACC) got on the board first in the sixth minute of play off a rebound in front on the net to jump out to a 1-0 lead. The Wildcats (3-5-1, 2-2-1 CACC) answered right back though, as they scored two minutes later thanks to Crystal Kline who got a shot off from just outside the top of the box to tie the game at 1-1.
WilmU would get three more shots off before Samantha Emmi played a cross inside the box from the right side to get past the Post defenders for the Wildcats' second goal to put them in front 2-1 in the 28th minute. Wilmington would finish out the half with four more opportunities but take just a 2-1 lead into the break.
Jessica Unsihuay got out to a hot start in the second half, as she put three shots on goal within the first 10 minutes, including a shot from the left side that was just over the crossbar. The Eagles stayed with them though, as they got a header on a cross from the right side for the ball to sneak past goalkeeper Emily Camp to tie things up at two apiece.
Ten minutes later, Post played a ball in off a corner kick which was headed off a Wildcat defender that ended up in the back of the net for the Eagles to take back the lead, making it 3-2.
Jasmine Brake would give WilmU one last opportunity on a shot outside the top of the box with three minutes left in regulation, but the Eagles would hang on to secure the comeback, 3-2.
Crystal Kline scored her first goal of the year, as Samantha Emmi netted her third of the year so far. Jessica Unsihuay had five shots, and one assist, as Sammie Bennett also had an assist. Kasie Lambert had three shots for the Wildcats, while Emily Camp made four saves in the net.
Wilmington will head to Queens (N.Y.) on Wednesday afternoon in their final nonconference matchup of the season. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
