BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - - The Wilmington University women's soccer took couldn't overcome a goal in the third minute as it fell to Concordia, 1-0, in the 2019 regular season finale on Saturday at Bronxville High School.
With the loss, the Wildcats (7-9-1, 6-5-1 CACC) finish the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference schedule with 19 points, securing a spot in the CACC Tournament, but have to wait to see if they will be the sixth or seventh seed. Post plays Felician on Wednesday to determine the final seedings.
It didn't take long for the Clippers (5-9-1, 3-7-1 CACC) to get on the board, as their first shot beat WilmU netminder Emily Camp in the third minute. Caitlin Ziemba scored just 2:38 into the match for the Clippers.
The Wildcats put seven shots up in the first half, with five of them going on goal, but Clipper goalkeeper Sophia Cogan made all five stops to preserve the 1-0 lead at the half.
Wilmington had a flurry of shots starting in the 71st minute, as Amaiya Giddings and Kasie Lambert put shots on goal and Emily Navarrete sailed one wide in the 78th minute. Alex Keck had the final three shots for the Wildcats, as her second shot was again saved by Cogan.
The Wildcats outshot the Clippers, 14-8, for the match, as both teams earned four corners each. Cogan made nine saves in goal for the Clippers to record the shutout. Jessica Unsihuay, Kasie Lambert, and Lina Boussif all finished with two shots on goal for the Wildcats.
It was the first time in 13 meetings that the Clippers got the better of the Wildcats.
The Wildcats will have nine days off before the CACC Tournament First Round game, as they await who and where they will play. The postseason will begin on Tuesday, November 12, with the final four teams advancing to the CACC Tournament Semifinals hosted by Post University starting on Friday, November 15.
