LAKEWOOD, N.J. – An early start for No. 2 Georgian Court would put them up 2-0 after the first half, leading them to a 3-0 win over No. 7 Wilmington University women's soccer team in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Quarterfinal game at Investors Bank Field on Tuesday afternoon.
With the loss, the Wildcats finished out the 2019 season with an overall record of 7-10-1.
The Lions (13-5-1) started out quick against WilmU, getting the first corner of the contest within the first minute of play, before putting on three shots against goalkeeper Emily Camp within the next six minutes. The Wildcats would have their first chance on goal on a shot from Kasie Lambert in the eighth minute, but Georgian Court's keeper would keep it scoreless.
Ten minutes later, the Lions had an opportunity on a failed clear by the Wildcats, which gave them the first goal of the game with 25 minutes left to play in the first half. Georgian Court would put two more shots on goal, before scoring again in the 34th minute of play to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Freshman Samantha Emmi would give the Wildcats their first chance in the new half within just five minutes, but could not connect. By the 62nd minute, the Wildcats were penalized on a foul inside the box to give Georgian Court the chance for a penalty kick, which led to their third goal of the game.
The Wildcats had five corner opportunities within the second half, but the Lions' defense held strong to hold them off. Despite having more corners, Georgian Court outshot the Wildcats, 21-6 in the game.
Junior Kasie Lambert had two shots for WilmU, as Jessica Unsihuay, Jasmine Brake, Kailey Hyland, and Samantha Emmi all had one. Emily Camp made nine saves in the net on 12 shots on goal.
