Women’s Soccer Avoids Weather, Defeats Felician, 3-0, in CACC Night Game

RUTHERFORD, N.J. - - The weather held off for the game but Felician couldn't hold off the Wilmington University women's team as the Wildcats used three different goal scorers to win the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game, 3-0, on Saturday night at Lyndhurst Recreation.

With the win, the Wildcats remain in fourth place in the CACC with 13 points through a 4-1-1 record. They are now 7-3-2- overall, the second best overall winning percentage in the conference.

The scoring didn't start until late in the first half. With their eighth and final shot of the half, Jimena Garcia Risoto buried a rebound to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead in the 41st minute. Samantha Emmi played a long ball over the top to a hard charging Alexis Johnson. Johnson was in on goal, but her attempt was stopped by the goalkeeper. Garcia Risoto was there to tap in the rebound for her fourth goal of the year.

The Wildcats led 8-3 in shots in the first half, but the just the one goal had the Wildcats up 1-0.

Lauren Hoelke gave the Wildcats a cushion in the 68th minute, scoring from a tough angle to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead. Kasie Lambert played Hoelke out wide on the right side, she put a shot on goal from outside the 18-yard box, firing all the way to the far post and into the side netting for her fourth of the year.

An insurance goal came in the 81st minute, as defender Alicia Whyte scored her second of the year. An unsettled ball was knocked around a few times before Alicia Whyte put a good boot on it in traffic. The ball kept sailing towards the goal and snuck under the cross bar in the top right corner for the 3-0 lead with under 10 minutes to play.

Felician had a chance late in the game to get on the scoreboard, with three consecutive shots on goal. The first hit the crossbar and stayed out before Emily Camp was called on to make saves at the 84:28 mark and the 84:46 mark to keep the clean sheet.

Camp made three saves on the night to help the Wildcats to their sixth shutout of the season.

The Wildcats have five games left in the regular season, all inside the CACC. They begin the home stretch with a home game against CACC leading Holy Family on Wednesday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex. The opening whistle is set for 3:30 p.m.
