Wildcats Slotted Eighth in Team’s Inaugural Appearance in CACC Women’s Tennis Preseason Poll

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Competing in their first season of varsity intercollegiate competition this fall, the Wilmington University women's tennis team received 13 points and finished eighth in the 2016 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announce by the conference office on Thursday.

In a vote of the league's eight head coaches, the Wildcats earned 13 points for eighth place. Chestnut Hill, who reached the CACC Tournament Championship match a season ago, claimed the top spot with six first place votes and 61 total points.

Goldey-Beacom earned a spot in the CACC Tournament Semifinals in 2015 and received two first place votes and 53 points for second in the preseason poll. Post also reached the CACC Tournament Semifinals last fall and picked up 46 points for third place this season. Philadelphia rounds out this fall's projected CACC Tournament with 40 points and a spot in fourth place.

USciences claims the fifth spot in the poll with 28 points followed by Holy Family (26 points), Caldwell (21), and Wilmington.

The Wildcats make their debut on the road on September 10 when they travel to East Region power NYIT for a nonconference match. The team opens their CACC schedule at Goldey-Beacom (at the Delcastle Tennis Center) on Wednesday, September 14.

They are looking to be one of the top four teams throughout the CACC schedule to advance to the CACC Tournament starting on October 22 at Georgian Court University. A champion will be crowned on October 23 in Lakewood, N.J.
