HOCKESSIN, Del. - - In its inaugural season, the Wilmington University women's tennis team clinched a spot in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament at the end of the fall with a 5-4 victory over Post on Sunday afternoon at the Hockessin Indoor Tennis facility.

With the win, the Wildcats improve to 5-3 overall and 4-1 in the CACC with two conference matches remaining. The Wildcats are currently in second place, but hold tiebreakers over the fourth and fifth place teams, securing a position in the CACC Tournament later this month.

The Wildcats jumped ahead, 2-1, after the doubles matches, getting wins from the number one and number two doubles duos. Begona Gomar and Laura Gil set the tone at number one doubles with an 8-4 win before Anushka Sathe and Milica Knezevic followed suit at number two doubles with an 8-3 win.

Gomar continued her recent success at number two singles, winning her fifth straight dual match singles event, 6-0 and 6-1. She is now 6-2 in singles in dual matches on the season. Gil also improved to 6-2 on the year at number three singles, giving the Wildcats its fourth point on the day with a 6-4, 6-1 victory.

Knezevic secured the victory for the Wildcats at number five singles, moving to 5-3 on the year with a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Sathe won the first set at number one singles, 6-3, but the Eagles' (7-4, 5-2 CACC) Liza Dubrovskaya came back to win the second set, 6-0, before taking the match, 6-2, in the third.

Sabrina Blasi-Smith dropped her match at number four singles, 6-0 and 6-2, while Lauren Kiger lost at number six singles, 6-2 and 6-1.

The Wildcats still have to makeup a match against Philadelphia this week while also hosting Caldwell on Thursday at the Delcastle Tennis Center. Thursday's match is set for a 3:00 p.m. first service.
