NEWARK, Del. - - The first installment of the 2016-17 Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional Rankings were released earlier this week, and first year program Wilmington University is slotted ninth overall in the region.

The Wildcats closed their first fall season in October, going 7-4 overall and 6-1 in the CACC. The Wildcats earned the number two seed for the CACC Tournament before falling in the CACC Tournament Semifinals.

Of the teams in the first Top-10 Regional Rankings on the year, the Wildcats played four ranked teams in the fall, including each of the top three programs. NYIT holds the top spot in the East followed by Queens and Goldey-Beacom.

Northeast-10 programs Adelphi, Stonehill, and Southern New Hampshire occupy the third, fourth, and fifth positions, respectively. LIU Post, Post, Wilmington, and Assumption round out the Top-10.

The ITA also ranks singles and doubles players throughout the season and Wilmington's freshman Begona Gomar (left) earned a spot on the list in a tie for 20th overall. Gomar went 6-1 in the CACC at the number two singles position, 9-3 overall and 8-2 in dual matches. She won her first match in the ITA East Regional Championship this fall. NYIT holds the top two spots in both the singles and doubles teams' list.

The next Oracle ITA Division II East Regional Ranking is set to come out on February 15, with a spring poll being released every month throughout the 2017 season.
