WILMINGTON, Del. - - The Wilmington University women's tennis team started its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference schedule on the right foot, defeating Chestnut Hill, 6-3, on Tuesday afternoon at the Delcastle Tennis Center.

The win snapped a three-match losing streak for the Wildcats (2-3, 1-0 CACC), as they began their conference run with a solid victory. The Griffins (0-2, 0-2 CACC) earned wins at number one doubles, number one singles, and number three singles, but it wasn't enough for the win.

Sophomores Laura Gil and Sabrina Blasi-Smith started the Wildcats off with a win at number three doubles, taking down Julia Bellon and Nicole Yang, 8-2. Begona Gomar and Tess Paya followed suit with an 8-5 victory at number two doubles. The Wildcats weren't able to complete the doubles sweep as Andrea Ribalta and Anushka Sathe fell at number one.

The Wildcats quickly wrapped up the match in the singles matches, as Ribalta won at number four singles, 6-0 (retired). Blasi-Smith continued her strong play with a 6-0 and 6-0 victory at number six singles for a 4-1 lead. Paya slammed the door on the victory at number five singles, defeating Julia Bella, 6-1 and 6-0, for the Wildcats' fifth point.

The Wildcats put their dual matches on hold for a week, as they head to the ITA East Regional Tournament in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. The beginning of the individual and doubles regional event begins Friday, September 22.
