Wilmington Women’s Tennis Earns 6-3 Victory over USciences

WILMINGTON, Del. - - The Wilmington University women's tennis team got back on track with a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over USciences, 6-3, on Tuesday afternoon at the Delcastle Tennis Center.

The win snapped a two-match losing streak in the CACC for the Wildcats (3-5, 2-2 CACC), getting them back to .500 in the conference. The loss snapped a two-match winning streak for the Devils (3-3, 2-3 CACC).

The match got off to a good start for the Wildcats, as they took two out of three double points to lead, 2-1, going into singles. Tess Paya and Begona Gomar started the momentum with an 8-2 win at number three doubles before Laura Gil and Andrea Ribalta played an outstanding match to come away with an 8-4 victory at number one singles. The Devils were able to get on the board at number two doubles, defeating Anushka Sathe and Jane Malygina, 8-5.

Paya (number six), Ribalta (number five), and Gil (number two) all carried their momentum from doubles into their singles matches, as all three took care of their opponent by common scores, 6-0 and 6-0, earning the match victory quite quickly. Malygina wasn't far behind her teammates, as she took down her Devils opponent, 6-0 and 6-1, at number three singles.

The fifth ranked player in the East Region, according to the final Oracle/ITA Collegiate Rankings from last spring, Karla Miletic was able to take care of Begona Gomar at number singles, 6-2 and 6-0. Danielle Paran earned the third point for the Devils, 6-2 and 6-3, at number four singles against Sathe, ending the afternoon at Delcastle.

The Wildcats stay in the CACC and travel to Caldwell for their next match on Thursday. They head to the Cougars with an anticipated 3:00 p.m. first service.
