CALDWELL, N.J. - - The Wilmington University women's tennis team won their second straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest, defeating Caldwell, 8-1, on Thursday afternoon at the Caldwell Tennis Courts.

The win keeps the Wildcats (4-5, 3-2 CACC) within two games of the CACC leaders as they cross into the second half of their conference schedule. Thursday was Caldwell's (3-7, 1-6 CACC) second straight loss.

The Wildcats made quick work of the Cougars in the three doubles events, getting the first point at number three doubles by Jane Malygina and Tess Paya, 8-0. Laura Gil and Andrea Ribalta followed at number one singles with an 8-2 victory before Begona Gomar and Anushka Sathe made it a clean sweep at number two doubles, 8-3.

Sabrina Blasi-Smith picked up her second singles victory of the season, winning at number five singles, 6-0 and 6-0, for the 4-0 lead. Gomar kept the momentum going with a similar score at number one singles, wrapping up the team victory for the Wildcats with the team's fifth point.

Joining the team late, Jane Malygina moved to 3-0 at singles competition with a 6-2 and 6-2 victory at number two singles. The Cougars were able to get on the board at number six singles, but it was too little too late as the Wildcats already had the match in hand.

Ribalta finished off her opponent in a pro-set at number four singles, 8-1, while Sathe put the stamp on the victory with an 8-5 pro-set victory at number three singles as well.

The Wildcats remain in CACC play but return home to face Holy Family on Saturday afternoon during the 2017 Wilmington University Homecoming Weekend. The Wildcats and Tigers are set to throw up the first serve at 1:00 p.m. at the Delcastle Tennis Center.
