Wilmington Women’s Tennis Advances to CACC Tournament Semifinals with 5-0 Victory over Post

WILMINGTON, Del. - - The third seeded Wilmington University women's tennis team took care of sixth seeded Post University, 5-0, in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament First Round on Tuesday, playing at the Delcastle Tennis Center.

With the win, the Wildcats (9-5) advance to play second seeded Concordia in the CACC Tournament Semifinals on Friday hosted by Post University in Middlebury, Connecticut, at the Edgewood Bath & Tennis Center. Top seeded Goldey-Beacom and the second seeded Clippers earned first round byes.

Tuesday got started with a dominating performance in the doubles matches, with Tess Paya and Jane Malygina opening up the scoring with an 8-0 victory at number three doubles. Laura Gil and Andrea Ribalta finished their match next at number one doubles, winning by a score of 8-1. Begona Gomar and Anushka Sathe held off a hard charging Eagles double team at number two, finishing off the sweep with an 8-4 victory.

It didn't take long for the postseason match to come to a close, as Paya and Ribalta finished off their opponents at number six and five singles, respectively. Paya gave the Wildcats their fourth point with a 6-0 and 6-0 victory not long before Ribalta closed the match with the same score at number five singles.

All the Wildcats were leading in their matches when the event was called. Begomar (first singles), Gil (second), and Malygina (third) all won their first sets by similar 6-0 scores while Malygina (3-0) and Gomar (2-0) led early in the second set as well. Sathe also won her first set at number four singles, 6-1.

The Wildcats dropped a tough, 6-3, match to Concordia on Sunday, October 1, which was the last time they lost a match. They have won seven straight since their match with the Clippers. The Clippers took first and second doubles, but all but the number one singles needed to go into a third set.

The first serve of the CACC Semifinal will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
