BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - - The Wilmington University women's tennis team ended the 2017-18 regular season on a high note, coming back to defeat NCAA Division II East Regionally ranked No. 8 LIU Post, 7-2, sweeping all six singles matches on Saturday afternoon at the LIU Post Tennis Courts.

The Wildcats (12-8) trailed the Pioneers (8-4), 2-1, following the three doubles matches, but stormed back by taking all six singles matches, including a pair of comeback victories, to claim the match.

The Pioneers took No. 1 and No. 2 doubled, but the Wildcats were able to get a point at No. 3 doubles, 8-1, anchored by Tess Paya and Sabrina Blasi-Smith.

The Pioneers had wins number three and four in their sights by winning the first set at each No. 1 and No. 2 singles. But Begona Gomar and Laura Gil battled back in each match, respectively.

Squaring off against the fourth ranked singled player in the East Region, and 65th in the nation, Gomar evened the match with a 6-4 victory in the second set. She then capped the comeback with another 6-4 victory in the tiebreak set, earning the victory.

Gil dropped the first set but evened the match with a 6-3 victory in the second. The third set was tightly contested, but Gil was able to earn the comeback victory with a 7-5 victory in the tiebreak.

Anushka Sathe won her match at No. 3, 6-2 and 6-2, while Tess Paya played well again with a win at No. 4 singles, 6-4 and 6-0. Andrea Ribalta won her match at No. 5 singles, 6-1 and 6-0, while Sabrina Blasi-Smith capped the singles sweep with a 6-0 and 6-4 victory at No. 6 singles.

The Wildcats were not ranked in the latest NCAA East Regional Poll but did all they could do to try and help their positioning for the final poll with a tough win over LIU Post.
