Begona Gomar and Mark Corrigan Earn CACC Player of the Week

NEWARK, Del. – The Wilmington University athletics department had two Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Players of the Week to represent the Wildcats.

Begona Gomar earned women's tennis Player of the Week for the first time this season, as she helped her team with wins over Concordia, 5-2, and USciences, 5-0. Gomar went 2-1 in number one singles beating Concordia's Anglelica Karlsson, (4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-8)), who is ranked 11th in the East, and USciences', Karla Miletic, (2-6, 6-3, 6-3), who is ranked seventh in the East. The junior also went 1-2 in number two doubles, with teammate Anushka Sathe, as they beat USciences, 6-2. She is currently ranked 10th in the region in singles.

Mark Corrigan received Co-Runner of the Week for men's cross country, as he finished first overall in the Blue and Gold Invitational this past weekend at the University of Delaware. Corrigan earned medalist honors, out of 69 runners, as he finished with a time of 27:01.3, which was 36 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. With his time, the senior helped lead the Wildcats to a first place finish out of six teams. Corrigan earned Co-Runner of the Week with Jake Thoden of Felician.

Volleyball's Angel Oliver was named to the Weekly Honor Roll for putting up 14 blocks this past week, along with Garret Checchi, who finished fourth overall with a time of 27:43.2 at the Blue and Gold Invitational as a freshman for men's cross country.
