Marie Rondot and Tess Paya Win Twice but Women’s Tennis Falls at UDC, 4-3

WASHINGTON, D.C. - - The doubles point came was once again the deciding factor for the Wilmington University women's tennis team on Tuesday, as the District of Columbia won a narrow match, 4-3, at the UDC Tennis Facility.

The Firebirds (7-1) won their sixth match in a row, claiming the doubles point while also winning three singles matches. The doubles point came down to a tiebreaker at No. 2 doubles, as the Wildcats (4-4) won at No. 3 to even the score, 1-1. The Firebirds took No. 2 doubles, 7-5, in the tiebreaker to earn the point.

Freshman Marie Rondot tied the match, 1-1, with a win at No. 2 singles, but UDC earned the match victory by taking singles matches at No. 6, No. 1, and No. 3.

The Wildcats' Tess Paya picked up a win at No. 4 singles, 6-4 and 6-3, while Andrea Ribalta gave the Wildcats their third singles win at No. 5, needing a third set to earn the win, 6-2, 2-6, and 6-1.

Tess Paya and Marie Rondot won at No. 3 doubles to force the deciding match at No. 2 doubles.

Tuesday was the final nonconference match for the Wildcats in the fall, as they return to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action for their final three regular season contests. They host Post on Thursday at the Delcastle Tennis Center for their final regular season home game. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m.
