Women’s Tennis Dominates Holy Family, 7-0, Controls Own Destiny in CACC Standings

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - - The Wilmington University women's tennis team was nearly perfect in its 7-0 sweep of Holy Family on Saturday, giving up only two games to the Tigers at the Union League Tennis Courts.

With the win, the Wildcats (6-4, 6-1 CACC) control their own destiny with one Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match remaining in the regular season. The Wildcats, Concordia, and Goldey-Beacom all have one loss in CACC play, but the Wildcats could win the three-way tiebreaker and earn the CACC Tournament's No. 1 seed with a positive outcome on Sunday at Chestnut Hill.

The Wildcats went through the doubles' matches with out succeeding a game, winning all three matches, 6-0, to earn the single point.

The dominance continued into the singles matches, as Anushka Sathe won at No. 2, 6-0 and 6-0. Laura Gil won at No. 3 singles by the same score, 6-0 and 6-0, as did Tess Paya at No. 4 singles, 6-0 and 6-0.

Andrea Ribalta won a single superset at No. 5 single, 8-0, while Sabrina Blasi-Smith also won a single superset at No. 6 singles, 8-0.

Begona Gomar won at No. 1 singles, 6-2 and 6-0, to close out the sweep and the victory, 7-0.

The all important match at Chestnut Hill on Sunday is set to get under way starting at 12:00 p.m. The three-way tiebreaker at the top of the CACC standings would come down to sets won in conference play. The match with the Griffins will be streamed and can be found at caccnetwork.com/chestnuthill.
