Firebirds Take Down Wilmington Women’s Tennis, 6-1

WILMINGTON, Del. - - Senior Laura Gil won at number two singles, but the Wilmington University women's tennis tell fell to regionally ranked District of Columbia, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon at the Delcastle Tennis Center.

In the final nonconference match of the fall season for the Wildcats (1-4, 1-2 CACC), UDC took the doubles' point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2, and then won the match with singles victories at No. 1, 3, and 4.

But Laura Gil put the Wildcats on the put at No. 2 singles, defeating Joanna Skrzypczynska with scores of 6-1 and 6-0.

Andrea Ribalta dropped a tough match to regionally ranked No. 6 Simone Parn at number one singles, 6-3 and 6-0. Sabrina Blasi-Smith dropped her match at No. 3 singles, 6-0 and 6-2, while Mallory Nolte fell at No. 4 singles, 6-0 and 6-0.

Laura Gil and Sabrina Blasi-Smith fought hard at No. 1 doubles, but the duo of Simone Parn and Sofia Bellucco pulled out the victory, 7-5. The Firebirds (5-0) earned the doubles' point with a 6-0 victory at number two doubles.

The Wildcats return to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action for the rest of the fall, starting with a home match against Holy Family on Tuesday afternoon. The first serve is set for 3:00 p.m. at the Delcastle Tennis Center.
