Fall Season Comes to a Close for Women’s Tennis with 5-1 Loss to Chestnut Hill

WILMINGTON, Del. - - The 2019 fall schedule came to a close for the Wilmington University women's tennis team on Saturday, falling to Chestnut Hill, 5-1, at the Delcastle Tennis Center.

The loss knocks the Wildcats (3-8, 3-6 CACC) out of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament for the first time in its four-year tenure. The Wildcats will resume their 2019-20 season in March.

On Saturday, the Griffins (6-6, 5-4 CACC) took both doubles' matches to earn the first point of the day. The Griffins then won singles matches at No. 5, No. 4, and No. 3, to seal the victory.

The lone point of the day for the Wildcats came at No. 1 singles, as senior Laura Gil defeated Mia Covic in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-2. Andrea Ribalta nearly took the first set at No. 2 singles, but eventually lost, 7-5 and 6-3, to round out the match.

The Wildcats are off until March when they come back to start their spring schedule. The Wildcats will begin play with a match at Millersville on March 6.
