Women’s Tennis Takes Care of West Chester, 7-0

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - - The Wilmington University women's tennis team played their final road match of the regular season on Thursday, sweeping the singles matches to defeat West Chester, 7-0, at the South Campus Courts.

The 31st ranked Wildcats improved to 16-2 on the year and have one final tune up in the regular season on Saturday, as they play regionally ranked Queens at the Delcastle Tennis Center. The Wildcats are ranked No. 1 in the East Region and Queens is ranked No. 4 in the East.

On Thursday, the Wildcats won at No. 3 doubles with Valentina Ivankovic and Marley Trifunovic, 6-0, to get things going. Despite falling at No. 1 doubles, the Wildcats were able to take the doubles point by winning at No. 2 doubles with Larize Nel and Fenna Swaan, 6-3.

The Wildcats swept the singles matches from the Golden Rams, winnings all six in straight sets.

Jess Purdy won at No. 1 singles, 6-2 and 6-3, while Neus Ramos Moreno won at No. 2 singles, 6-4 and 6-2. Valentina Ivankovic won quickly at No.3 singles, 6-1 and 6-0, while Begona Gomar won at No. 4 singles, 6-1 and 6-4. Larize Nel was the first to finish with blanking at No. 5 singles, 6-0 and 6-0, while Fenna Swaan won at No. 6 singles, 6-3 and 6-4.

Saturday match against the Knights begins at 2:00 p.m. at the Delcastle Tennis Center.
