Women’s Tennis Stopped in Round of 16 at National Tournament by 4th Seed Flagler

ORLANDO, Fla. - - The 2022-23 season has come to a close for the Wilmington University women's tennis team in the Round of 16 at the NCAA Division II National Tournament, as fourth seeded and nationally ranked No. 5 Flagler defeated the 13th seeded Wildcats, 4-0, on Friday at the USTA National Campus.

The Wildcats finished the season with a 19-4 overall record, reaching the National Tournament for the second year in a row.

Flagler, playing with three nationally ranked individuals and one nationally ranked doubles team, took the doubles point from the Wildcats. The Saints won at No. 3 doubles, 6-0, before the No. 18 ranked duo of Dana Heimen and Luisa Hrda won at No. 1 doubles, 6-2, to win the point.

The scoring continued for the Saints in singles play, as the No. 67th ranked player Dana Heimen won at No. 3 singles, 6-1 and 6-2. The Saints also won at No. 5 and No. 6 singles to close out the sweep, 4-0. Flagler was also winning in the three other singles matches when play was stopped.

Flagler also has the No. 4 ranked singles player and the No. 9 ranked singles player.

The Saints advance to the Round of 8 with a matchup against 12th seeded Washburn who upset 5th seeded Azusa Pacific.
