Wilmington Volleyball Hits Its Way to CACC Sweep over USciences

Hitting a season's best .364 as a team, the Wilmington University volleyball team swept the University of the Sciences, 3-0, on Wednesday night at the WU Athletics Complex.

Set scores for the match ere 25-19, 25-17, and 25-9.

With the win, the Wildcats improve to 2-1 inside the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and 5-10 overall. The Wildcats and the Devils (1-4, 0-2 CACC) will see each other one more time this season since both reside in the CACC's South Division.

The Wildcats hit .379 in the first set, .286 in the second set, and a remarkable .458 in the third set. The team also had a 100% side-out percentage in the third game, going 9-9 in side-out opportunities. For the match, they finished with a .710 side-out percentage.

The third set disparity was due to the service hand of Alex Siolos early in the set, as the Wildcats won eight straight points with Silos serving, including a kill from Allison Briley to give the Wildcats and Siolos the ball. Wilmington rattled off a run of 14 of 15 points to hold a 15-2 lead in the third game.

Leading the attack for the Wildcats was junior Kaitlin DiGiacinto who finished with 10 kills on 22 swings, committing one one error to finish with a .409 attack percentage. Freshman Erin Bistany hit at a .455 clip with seven kills on 11 swings, committing only two errors. Siolos added eight kills without committing an error on 12 swings, leading the team with a .667 attack percentage.

Siolos dished out a team best 22 assists while Kasey Couch added 13 helpers. Shelby Henderson, who was honored at the start of the game for becoming the fifth member of the 1000 dig club this past weekend, led the team with nine digs. Couch and Siolos added seven digs each while DiGiacinto chipped in with six.

Bistany helped lead the charge at the net, coming down with two solo blocks and three block assists as the Wildcats out-blocked the Devils, 6-1. Briley added the third and final solo block of the night for the Wildcats.

Wilmington hits the road for their next two CACC contests as the Wildcats head to Felician on Saturday and Philadelphia next Tuesday. Saturday's match is set for a 1 p.m. start in Rutherford, N.J.
