Wilmington Volleyball Bounces Back with CACC Sweep at Dominican

The Wilmington University rebounded on Saturday afternoon after having its five-match losing streak snapped on Friday night by sweeping Dominican in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference road contest in the Hennessy Center.

Set scores for the match were 25-23, 25-19, and 25-18.

The Wildcats evened their overall record at 12-12 with the victory while moving to 8-3 in the CACC. Dominican dropped to 11-5 overall and 8-5 in the CACC, playing in the North Division.

Wilmington used the strong arm of Allison Briley on Saturday as the sophomore collected 10 kills on 28 swings, while only committing a pair of errors to hit .286 for the match. Alex Siolos finished with eight kills while hitting .261 for the match.

For the match, the Wildcats hit .205 as a team and came up with 54 digs, despite giving up 22 kills to CACC leader McKenzie John. The Charger's hitter had 65 attempts and hit .231 for the match, but Dominican only hit .130 as a team for the match.

Defensively, the Wildcats were led by senior setter Kasey Couch with 14 digs while Shelby Henderson came away with 13 digs. Couch finished with the double-double by dishing out a team high 17 assists.

After closing out a close first set, the Wildcats started out by scoring the first five points of the second set. The Wildcats collected 13 kills on 31 swings in the second half while only committing one error for a match best .387 attack percentage to take a 2-0 lead.

The Wildcats have now won eight of their last 10 matches overall, bouncing back from a tough five-set loss Friday night against Georgian Court.

Wilmington returns to action on Wednesday when they host CACC South Division rival Philadelphia at the WU Athletics Complex. Wednesday is the team's Breast Cancer Awareness match hosted by the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition. The first serve is set for 7 p.m.
