Defensive Stand Give Wilmington Volleyball a 3-1 CACC South Division Victory at Holy Family

The Wilmington University volleyball team came back and took the final three set at Holy Family, winning the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference South Division contest, 3-1, on Tuesday night at the Campus Center Gym.

Set scores for the match were 23-25, 25-20, 25-18, and 26-24.

The Wildcats (18-13, 14-4 CACC) featured a four-headed attack on Tuesday night, getting double-digit kills from Allison Briley (14), Erin Bistany (13), Alex Siolos (12), and Kaitlin DiGiacinto (10). The Wildcats also held the Tigers (11-17, 9-8 CACC) to a .141 attack percentage by out-blocking them, 11-3, and picking up 103 digs as a team.

The Wildcats hit .253 as a team, but .295 in the final three sets after dropping the first game. The best set of the night came in the concluding game as the Wildcats picked up 19 kills with only two errors on 48 swings to hit .354.

Freshman Eile Harris led the team with a .533 attack percentage in the match, putting down eight terminations without committing an error on 15 swings. Bistany followed suit with a .476 attack percentage, putting down 13 kills with only three errors on 21 swings.

Defensively, the Wildcats picked up their second most digs of the season and the most in a four set match on the year with 103. Libero Shelby Henderson paced the Wildcats with 34 digs, tying a career high she set against New Haven earlier this season. DiGiacinto added 26 digs while Briley chipped in with 11 and Couch contributed 10.

Couch dished out a team high 25 assists for the double-double while Siolos added 21 assists for another double-double. DiGiacinto and Briley also collected double-doubles on the night.

Bistany led the defense at the net once again with six block assists while Harris denied four attacks all by herself. Hannah Karas added the only other solo block while adding four block assists from the right side as well.

The Wildcats close out the regular season on Saturday with Senior Day against Nyack. The team will honor Couch prior to the start of the contest, the team's lone senior this season. The Wildcats have already locked in a home playoff game for the quarterfinal round on Tuesday, November 11 at 7 p.m. Saturday's match is scheduled for a 12 p.m. start.
