Defense at the Net Leads Wilmington Volleyball to Sweep of CACC North Division Foe Dominican

NEWARK, Del. - - The Wilmington University volleyball team used its defense to sweep a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match from Dominican, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex.

Set scores for the match were 25-13, 25-12, and 25-18.

The Wildcats (6-4, 2-0 CACC) held the Chargers (1-10, 1-1 CACC) to a negative .026 attack percentage while also out-digging them, 61-50, and out blocking them, 11-0.

Two of the blocks were of the solo variety, as Eile Harris and Alex Siolos collected one each. Erin Bistany led the team with six block assists while Allison Briley chipped in with five block assists.

Jenna Brown led defense on the back line with 10 digs, while Siolos was the only other Wildcat to reach double figures with 10 as well. Briley contributed nine digs while Shelby Henderson and Kaitlin DiGiacinto added eight digs each.

The first dig of Siolos' 10 were the most significant, as it was the 1,000th of her career. She is the eighth player in Wilmington's NCAA era to reach the milestone, joining teammates Henderson and DiGiacinto.

Offensively, the Wildcats put down 33 kills while only committing 14 errors to finish with a .184 attack percentage as a team. Harris led the attack with eight kills on 15 swings while only committing two errors for a .400 attack percentage. Bistany and Siolos finished with six kills each while Miranda Shaw chipped in with four kills on six attempts and no errors. Shaw also passed out 20 assists on the night.

The match was apart of the 2015 WilmU Tournament, which continues into Sunday. The Wildcats will take part in two matches on Sunday at the WU Athletics Complex, starting with a match against Merrimack at 10 a.m.
