Wilmington Volleyball Wins Fourth Straight with Sweep at Concordia

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - - Early set runs paced the Wilmington University volleyball team to a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference sweep at Concordia on Saturday afternoon in the Meyer Athletics Center.

Set scores for the match were 25-21, 25-19, and 25-15.

The Wildcats (16-6, 9-2 CACC) stayed unbeaten against the CACC North Division, hitting .328 as a team on Saturday, committing only eight errors. The Clippers (3-8, 3-8 CACC) committed 26 errors on the afternoon, hitting .146 for the match.

The Wildcats jumped out to early leads of 6-2 and 13-5 in the first set before the Clippers climb all the way back to within four as late as 23-19. Eile Harris gave the visitors set point with a kill before the Clippers scored twice to have the set at 24-21. But Allison Briley ended the set with a kill, 25-21.

Another quick set spurt put the Wildcats in front 9-4, as a kill from Birley, a block from Alex Siolos and Erin Bistany, and a Clipper attack error gave the Wildcats three-straight points. Another 4-1 run gave the Wildcats its largest lead of the set, 16-9. But the Clippers were able to find a way back into the set, goignon an 8-3 run to get to within 19-17. With Wilmington leading 22-19, the Wildcats scored the final three points of the set, going ahead, 2-0, on a Siolos service ace.

With the third set tied 4-4, the Wildcats used a 10-1 run to blow the set wide open. The Clippers would only get as close as four points the rest of the way, as a block from Siolos and Megan Ward put the visitors up 17-10.  Kaitlin DiGiacinto capped a 5-0 run for the Wildcats with a kill, giving the visitors set and match points, 24-13. Hannah Karas ended the afternoon with a kill, giving the Wildcats the sweep.

Siolos led the offense with eight kills while adding 12 assists and three block assists as well. DiGiacinto added seven kills, six digs and three aces, while Briley chipped in with six kills and four digs. Erin Bistany added four kllls in two sets while Harris put down three terminations. Karas and Ward capped the kills for the Wildcats with one each. Miranda Shaw dished out 15 assists while serving up two aces.

The Wildcats remain on their four-game road trip, as they head to USciences for another CACC contest next week. The Wildcats defeated the Devils, 3-0, in the team's first matchup of the season. The team's will meet on Wednesday with the first serve scheduled for 7:15 p.m. in Philadelphia.
