RUTHERFORD, N.J. - - The Wilmington University volleyball team opened its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference schedule with a 3-1 victory at Felician on Saturday in Job Gym, needing a big fourth set comeback to secure the victory.

Set scores for the match were 25-20, 25-14, 19-25, and 25-20.

The Wildcats (4-6, 1-0 CACC) out-blocked the Golden Falcons (0-8, 0-3 CACC), 12-9, while also serving up nine aces throughout the match. The Wildcats hit .132 for the match as compared to the Golden Falcons' .068 attack percentage.

Felician led 10-6 in the first set, but the Wildcats went on a 8-0 run to take a 14-10 lead. The lead grew to as large as 19-13 before three straight Golden Falcon attack errors gave the visitors a 22-15 lead. The Golden Falcons closed the gap to as close as 23-20, but Allison Briley put down a kill and Eile Harris and Briley ended the set with a block, 25-20.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the second set and held onto a 9-5 lead before Felician battled back. The home team closed the gap to 10-8 but couldn't get over the hump. The Wildcats scored three straight points and took a 17-10 lead on a kill by Megan Ward. A Jenna Brown ace was the second point of a 4-0 run to take a 21-12 lead. Rebecca Rawlinson put down a kill for set point and a Felician error put Wilmington up, 2-0.

The third set runs came from Felician to stay alive, using a 6-0 spurt to take a 15-7 lead. The Wildcats closed the gap to 18-13, but the teams traded points from there on out, keeping Felician in the game with a 25-19 victory.

Felician continued to keep the pressure on in the fourth set, taking an early 6-2 lead before leading as late as 18-14. But following a Wilmington timeout, the Wildcats went on a 6-1 run, taking the lead on a Harris kill, 20-19. A golden Falcon kill tied the match, 20-20, but Briley started a 5-0 run to end the set and the match. Emma Kongevold had a kill in the final run while Briley also came up with an ace. Harris and Ward teamed up for a block before an attack error ended it, 25-20.

Harris and Kongevold led the offense with 10 kills each while Harris led the Wildcats with a .389 attack percentage. Harris also added six block assists for a team leading 13 points. Briley finished with seven kills but added 19 digs while Ward chipped in with seven kills, four block assists, and two aces.

Rawlinson collected three solo blocks while also getting a hand on two block assists, adding five kills and a team leading three service aces. Miranda Shaw dished out 33 assists while Brown added a match high 24 digs.

The Wildcats remain in CACC play next week, but return to action at the WU Athletics Complex after a two-match road trip. The Wildcats welcome CACC rival Philadelphia on Wednesday night with a first serve scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
