Wilmington Volleyball Dismissed at Bloomfield in Straight Sets

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - - The Wilmington University women's volleyball team dropped its fifth straight match on Saturday as Bloomfield swept the Wildcats, 3-0, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference cross divisional contest in Bloomfield Gym.

Set scores for the match were 25-14, 25-16, and 25-21.

The Bears (12-10, 9-2 CACC) finished with three players with double digit kills while hitting .312 as a team. The Wildcats (7-13, 4-7 CACC) collected 18 fewer kills than the Bears in the match, hitting .105 as a team for the afternoon.

Emma Kongevold's eight kills and .250 attack percentage led the Wildcats while Miranda Shaw dished out 15 assists. Allison Briley paced the defense with 16 digs and getting one of two solo blocks in the match.

The Wildcats put down nine kills but committed six errors in the first set for a .097 attack percentage. On the other side of the net, the Bears collected 15 kills with only four errors and a .324 attack percentage to take a 1-0 lead.

The visitors could only collected four kills in the second set, hitting negative.148 with eight errors. Bloomfield also had their worst set of the afternoon, but still put down 12 kills with a .250 attack percentage for a 2-0 lead.

The Wildcats only committed two errors in the third set, but the defense couldn't solve the Bears as they put down 18 kills with only two errors as well, hitting .340 to put the match away.

The Wildcats return home for a pair of matches this week, hosting Goldey-Beacom and Nyack at the WU Athletics Complex. First up for the Wildcats is crosstown rival Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday night. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
