Wildcats Drop Final Two Contests of the Wildcat Regional Invitational against Adelphi, 3-1 and Franklin Pierce, 3-1

NEWARK, Del. – The Wilmington University volleyball team dropped their final two games in the Wildcat Regional Invitational to Adelphi, 3-1 and Franklin Pierce, 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Complex.

Set scores for the match against Adelphi were, 25-21, 23-25, 22-25, and 16-25.

Set scores for the match against Franklin Pierce were, 25-13, 24-26, 20-25, and 20-25.

Match vs. Adelphi

Wilmington (5-3) got out to a strong start in the first set, where they came back from a four-point deficit to tie the set up at 16 apiece, before taking the lead after four straight points to take the set, 25-20. Adelphi (2-1) got out to a 10-6 lead in the second set, before the Wildcats tied it up twice. Bailey Andrews made back-to-back kills to tie it at 23-23, but the Panthers would take the next two points for the set, 25-23.

Another back-and-forth third set would bring Wilmington within two from a kill for Dorie Moore, but Adelphi would get the set point off a kill to take a 2-1 lead heading into the fourth set.

Mandys Behiels notch der third double-double of the tournament with 10 kills and 13 digs, while Angel Oliver had 10 kills and three blocks at the net. Rebecca Rawlinson would add eight kills with two block solos.

Sarah Couch dished out 36 assists for the Wildcats, while Elly Collins controlled the back line with 20 digs.

Wilmington would out-hit the Panthers in the first set with a .280 hitting percentage, but fall behind the rest of the match as Adelphi finished with 57 kills.

Match vs. Franklin Pierce

The Wildcats got out to a ten-point lead in the first set, finishing the Ravens (5-3) off, 25-13, as they went 15-22 on kills for a .591 hitting percentage. Wilmington would have set point thanks to Angel Oliver in the second set, but Franklin Pierce was able to fight off three straight points to come back and take the set, 26-24.

The Ravens would tie the third set up at 16 apiece, before they went on several three-point runs to take a 25-20 victory and go up 2-1 over the Wildcats. WilmU would have the lead again in the fourth set, until Franklin Pierce fought their way back to tie the ballgame up, before using a 6-1 run to close out the fourth and final set, 25-20.

Mandy Behiels would finish the tournament with her fourth straight double-double as she collected 13 kills and 13 digs. Dorie Moore would have 12 kills to go along with five digs for a .500 hitting percentage. Bailey Andrews finished with nine kills, while Rebecca Rawlinson added eight and three block solos.

Elly Collins had 18 digs, as Genevieve Hughes had 12. Sarah Couch finished with 46 assists.

The Wildcats out-hit the Ravens in the contest, as they finished with 51 kills to their 47.

Next Up:

Wilmington will head to Daemen College next weekend for a two-day tournament starting on Friday, September 20, where they will face off with Glenville St. at 1:30 p.m. and Daemen at 6:00 p.m. On Saturday, September 21 they will go against Salem International at 11:00 a.m., before finishing off against Lock Haven at 3:00 p.m.
