LEXINGTON, Ky. - - For the eighth time overall and second year in a row, the Wilmington University volleyball team has earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2019-2020 season, joining a record breaking 1,315 volleyball programs across the nation.

The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale. The Wildcats are one of 171 NCAA Division II teams to earn the award this season.

The Wildcats first earned the award in the 2010 season, and now make it eight years in the past 11 overall to earn the distinction.

Wilmington also made the AVCA Team Academic Honor Roll, being one of 36 teams in all of NCAA DII to also hold the standard with a cumulative GPA.

The Wildcats went 20-14 in 2019, winning 20 or more games for the first time since 2015. They will now have to wait to carry that momentum into the spring 2021 season.
